My journey to vegan

John of The Vegan Cow

My name is John, and I am vegan.  I grew up near Toronto on a pretty typical meat n potatoes kind of diet.  In high school I spent at least 4 out of 5 days a week eating lunch at McDonald’s, Harvey’s, Burger King or 2 for 1 Pizza.  Eventually moving onto university my diet evolved to match my environment.  Did you know you can get chicken fingers and Pizza Pizza 24 hours a day right in your dorm – oh my!

Then at the age of 24, my pancreas decided it was fun while it lasted, but now it’s time to retire – and I was diagnosed with type I diabetes.  Looking back, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.  Diabetes forces you to consider what you are putting in your body, and how that will affect you.

It was shortly after that I decided to try vegetarian (mostly for healthy reasons), for 1 month.  I haven’t eaten meat since (at least not on purpose).  I went back and forth between vegetarian and vegan for a while, until I accepted the fact that by consuming dairy and eggs, I am essentially paying  people to harm animals.  The more I learn about where our food comes from and the longer I continue to choose vegan, the stronger I feel that it’s the right way to live.  This is my way of helping to spread the message that vegan is not only possible – but much easier than you think.

How do you give back to the vegan community?

Supporting the vegan community and especially those who devote their lives to saving and protecting animals is important.   That is why $2 from every pre sale shirt we sell will go towards supporting those folks who devote their lives to protecting animals.  It is my hope that not only will I raise some much needed money for these charities, but spread awareness of what these sanctuaries are doing, and why it’s important.

If you are interested in having your organization supported please get in touch.

Where do you get your shirts?

We order all of our shirts from Gildan, a Canadian company with a strong track record for ethical production of apparel.  All shirts are produced in sweatshop free facilities that adhere to a strict internal code of conduct, local & international laws and the codes of WRAP and the FLA.

Do you accept designs or design ideas?

You bet!
We’d love to see your design (and pay you for it) or hear your idea.  Even if it’s a drawing or sketch we can turn it into t shirt.  Please submit it to our designers page here.

What countries do you serve?

We ship to over 200 countries, and have yet to find a place we’re not able to get too.  That said, Paypal doesn’t service as many countries as we can so please contact us if payment methods are an issue.

How long does it take to get my shirt?

It will take 7-14 business days to receive your order in the mail, depending on how busy the printer is and where you live in the world.

What is your return policy?

We offer full refunds on all manufacturers defects and incorrect orders.  If you’ve experienced one of these, please contact us for return instructions.  All returns must be unworn and unwashed.  Please understand that due to the nature of the limited edition tee, if the shirt doesn’t fit perfectly, or you made a mistake in ordering, we can’t take the shirt back.
